This assignment for my public health class (Environmental Determinants of Health) has 2 questions (Question A and Question B): Here are the questions and detailed instructions below (I will also attach the link on more info regarding stakeholders):
A. One topic that we did not have time to cover in lectures this week is the use of antibiotics and growth promoters in agriculture. Imagine you were drafting a policy to regulate the use of antibiotics and growth promoters. Explain how you would identify stakeholders to engage with while drafting the policy text. In your answer, consider why and how antibiotics and growth promoters are used in modern agriculture and the downstream health and environmental concerns associated with their use.

B. Imagine that you work at a non profit that supports healthy living through healthier environments. The Senate is about to hear a new bill, SB248, that would ban the use of phthalates in food packaging. Write a short (~300 word) blog post encouraging the public to support this bill. In addition, prepare 3 tweets that engage and encourage your audience (the public) to support this bill. (*note, if you are not on twitter, you can find numerous guidelines about how to effectively compose tweets by searching google.) **These tweets can just be written on the same paper and I will tweet them**
Your responses to the questions asked should be 400 words each, with appropriate paragraph breaks, and not more than 425 words per response. Maximum points will be earned by integrating at least 1 peer reviewed resource (references) into each of your responses to support your statements. Additional resources including web resources, documents, news pieces etc. may also be included, and should also be properly cited. All citations should be APA format. Your responses need to be supported by both course materials and external sources to provide evidence of your position. Additional resources on how to properly cite your resources are available in the Week 0 Welcome VoiceThread. Please place the word count for each response (not including references) in the upper right header and refer to the attached rubric download for additional guidance.
For clarification, unless I specifically indicate to the contrary, responses to the assignment questions should contain external sources (1 peer-review per response at least) to demonstrate both understanding and a critical application of sources. In-text citations are a must, as these assignments are course objective policy applications and evaluations. When using outside sources, a proper citation is a requirement and a component of our academic standards. Please see me if you are having any troubles understanding this expectation.
This week, in question A., you will be asked to draft a policy to regulate the use of antibiotics and growth promoters. Please be sure to read/answer all the parts to the question, and this should be in a professional format, NOT in first person.
In part B., we will depart from our normal structure and you are asked to write a blog post, and prepare 3 tweets (see Canvas for more details about length etc.). You are still required to research and find resources (including peer-reviewed) that assist you in this endeavor. You may write in the first person if that suits your message. This activity should be engaging, but you are writing it from the perspective of a professional worker in a non-profit, so there should still be technical skill and aptitude displayed. Have fun with it too!
