Research paper (40% of the final grade): between 3,500 and 4,000 words
In their research paper, students shall examine one of the issues covered in the course in a country of
their choice, except for Canada and the United States of America. Students are asked to submit their topic
to the Professor for approval. Grading shall be based on research quality, reference to the provisions of
relevant international treaties, general comments/recommendations, State reports, Concluding
Observations, Special Rapporteur reports, as well as structure, innovative ideas, style, logic and clarity.
Research papers shall be written as if they were articles submitted to a law journal. See ILST4601
Guidelines 2021 for additional information (on eClass). Students must submit their research paper on
eClass through Turnitin on the scheduled due date. Students are responsible for keeping electronic copies
of all submitted work.
