WRITTEN ASSIGNMENT #1: THE SSW AS AN INTERVIEWING TOOL

Purpose: To reflect upon how YOU will impact the SSW interview. It is widely accepted that individual interviewer factors will contribute to the worker-client relationship and to client outcomes. The goal of this assignment is to become more mindful of how your self-concept, perceptions, qualities, values, beliefs, experiences, etc. may impact you in the field. This assignment strives to enhance safe and effective use of self.

Using essay format (APA), please respond to the three questions below:

1. Why is it important to develop self-awareness as an SSW interviewer?
2. Discuss 3 things you have learned about yourself that may facilitate or interfere with establishing positive helping relationships and positive client outcomes. For each, discuss how this self-awareness will enhance your effectiveness as an SSW interviewer.
3. What strategies will you use to continue your process of self-awareness and growth as an SSW?

Length & Format: Approximately 6 pages in length plus cover page and reference page. Must be type written using full sentences and paragraph style and be sure to cite resources using APA format.

Grade: 30% of your final grade (5% will be reserved for practicing techniques in class)

Criteria for Evaluation: This assignment will be evaluated on content, evidence of self-reflection and insight, understanding of relevant theories, appropriate referencing of work cited, and correct spelling and grammar.
