Role of Buddhism in Japan’s economy or politics

Guidelines for a Research Paper:

Choose a topic from the historical incidents or cultural phenomena of Japan between the prehistoric (Jōmon/Yayoi eras) to 1800s. This is a very important step in writing a research paper. If you are interested in writing a paper “about the samurai,” for instance, please narrow it down by asking questions. If you choose a large and vague concept, your paper will be too shallow or you will be swamped with information. Ask questions such as: Are you interested in comparison? Social status? A particular battle? Lord and vassal relationship? A particular aspect of art and culture produced or patronized by a particular samurai?

Conduct research and find out pertinent information regarding the topic of your choice. Be sure to use specific examples to prove the points of your argument in your paper. Try to figure out what kinds of things you should know about a topic to answer your research question. Then make a list of bibliography.

At least 3 bibliographies to be consulted. It can be a monograph, anthology, academic journal, newspaper, exhibition catalogue, etc. Internet source can be used as long as the article with its author’s name appears. Do NOT use Wikipedia as your source since it often conveys erroneous information. Do NOT use the survey textbook either for the same reason.
