For this 10-12 paper, I’d like you to choose the book Skeleton Man by Joseph Bruchac. This paper is about putting that text (or those texts) in a larger Gothic context. Choose one of the chapters listed below, and read it carefully (the tables of contents of each book will tell you their topics). Use the information in that chapter to help you construct an original reading of that book. PLEASE DO NOT USE ANY SOURCES OTHER THAN THE UPLOADED FILES
What does that mean? It means that, for example, let’s say you choose…a chapter on the postcolonial gothic, and pair it with Bruchac’s Skeleton Man. You would read the chapter, which provides you with an overview of postcolonial readings of gothic texts, and readings of postcolonial gothic texts. To situate the book in the chapter, try to imagine what the chapter’s writer would say about the book. Where would they place it in their overview of the criticism done on this topic? Then choose an aspect of the kind of criticism described by the chapter, and use it as a lens through which to view the book. What does that lens help you see? What kind of reading does it bring into focus?
You may choose from the attached files
The Gothic World, chapters 7, 10, 11, 12, 26, or 39
21st Century Gothic, chapters 1, 2, 3, or 4.
