Length: 1300-1550 words (4-6 pages double-spaced pages in 12 point Times New Roman font: approximately 325 words per page)
Write an essay on the following topic, making frequent and detailed references to AT LEAST FIVE of the works listed below. Your essay should include a brief introduction (a few sentences) containing a thesis statement and an outline of the steps your argument is going to take. Body paragraphs can each focus on a single work; if so, you should draw frequent comparisons to your other chosen works as you write each paragraph. Alternatively, you could focus each paragraph on a specific sub-topic and deal with anywhere from one to five works in each paragraph. Be sure, either way, to discuss each of your five chosen works in equal length and detail.
Because this is a take-home exam intended to approximate the conditions of a text-free in-class exam, you are not required to quote or cite page numbers or film minutes from the works you discuss. But you should nevertheless describe the works in as much detail as possible. The themes here are broad enough for you to be able to provide a wide-ranging and detailed commentary on all major points made in the works you discuss. Do not limit yourself to a small portion of a work, and do not settle for generalization (generalization or a brief mention of main points only will leave the impression that you haven’t read or seen the work you are discussing). Aim to cover almost everything, as far as you can in the length allowed, since every part of each work can be used as an example of the theme.
2. Write an essay on the theme of destruction and recovery in five of the following works.

Klein, “We Are the Wildfire”
Wallace-Wells, “Uninhabitable Earth”
Davis, “The Unravelling of America”
Shane, “This Was the Week American Fascism Reached a Tipping Point”
“The Residential School System” (UBC Arts)
