ESSAY 3: Comparing Three Works of Literature
Over the course of this semester, we have examined a diverse collection of literature from authors with distinct and varied voices. One thing that unites these authors is their ability to create thematic material that often comments on similar struggles, emotions, motifs, etc. In your final essay, you will identify a thematic element that stands out to you and trace it through three texts we have read this semester. Your comparative analysis must be guided by a clear and engaging thesis, and be supported with multiple citations from the texts as well as at least three academically researched secondary sources. In addition, you must create an annotated bibliography that guides the reader through your research and sources.

The best essays will have a strong and engaging thesis based around a significant theme shared among your chosen texts. They will clearly demonstrate how each author made the choices they did and why. This thematic analysis must be supported with engaging and relevant evidence from secondary sources that have been academically researched. Some examples of academic sources include books, biographies, peer-reviewed journals, scholarly articles, etc.
