Annotated Bibliography Instructions
I want you to do an annotated bibliography of 4 sources. They should be arranged by alphabetical order by author’s last name. You should include the citation information as well as a brief summary/evaluation/synopsis of the source. This bibliography should be in MLA format and consist of sources taken from the Annotated Bibliography folder and GALILEO. To get started, pick an article from the Annotated Bibliography folder that we have not discussed or read this semester. You can use up to two articles from the Annotated Bibliography folder if they are thematically related. You then need to find an additional 2-3 articles on GALILEO (to make up a total of four) that are related to the article you chose from the Annotated Bibliography folder. I would suggest that you come and make an appointment with me to talk about your Annotated Bibliography.
Sample Annotation of Article from Annotated Bibliography Folder:
Author’s Last Name, Author’s First Name. “Article Title.” Website Title, Date of Publication in MLA Format, URL of website starting with www. (leave out the http://). Date of Access of Website in MLA Format.
In your annotation you should give a brief explanation of the journal article or essay you read. What is it about? How well does it relate to your topic? Was it helpful to your research or did you decide that other sources were more helpful or clearly written? Make sure you have a hanging indention. It should be short but long enough to get the idea across. A short paragraph of summary should suffice. Do not plagiarize your summary;
it should be in your own words.
Sample Annotation of Article from GALILEO:
Blume, Judy. “Places I Never Meant to Be: A Personal View.” American Libraries, vol. 30, no. 6, Jun/Jul99, p. 62. EBSCOhost, proxygsu-cot1.galileo.usg.edu/login?url=http://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&db=fth&AN=1921303&site=eds-live&scope=site.

For the articles from GALILEO, click on the yellow Cite button on the right hand side after you open the article and select MLA. If you use Firefox, you can copy and paste the citation into your Annotated Bibliography. If you use Chrome, it will probably make the citation some weird green color and you will have to retype it. Make sure you fix the formatting of the citation to fix MLA Format and fix any weird thing the computer did when making the citation like writing in all caps.
