Autobiographical Sketch

Instructing children how to write their autobiography and/or autobiographical sketch is a way to develop writing skills as well as an outlet to research their personal and family histories. An exercise in writing an autobiography can give children the opportunity to investigate who they are and where they come from. You can help them put their life story together through photographs and important dates, with the help of parents. Engaging in the process of writing your own autobiographical sketch serves as a mechanism for understanding yourself, understanding the experience, in addition to recognizing the qualities and characteristics of a well written autobiography. So this is your time to shine as you seek to understand yourself.
Your sketch should include the following:
A Title of your Life Story (be creative)
A Song that would serve as the soundtrack of your life’s story (include a link to the song and a brief description as to why you chose this particular song)
A Table of Content for your Life Story that contains 10 Creative Chapter Titles as well as a brief summary of each chapter. The titles should be creative and the brief summary should be 3-5 sentences that draw the reader in.
Provide an Acknowledgement Page. Thank at least one person who has been significant in your life and describe why.
In closing, provide a Lessons Learned Statement. Describe what should be their biggest take away from your story after someone has read your Life’s Story.
Identify a Biography or Autobiography for children with which you identify most with. Provide specific quotes that resonate with you. How does their story relate to yours? How might you use the autobiography/biography with students?
