You will need two academic journal articles of at least 15 pages for your research paper. An academic journal article is one that is peer-reviewed by professors at universities and is therefore a product of their research and accepted by the academic community. You will find these types of articles on the library’s databases. Do not use the Internet! Go to the library’s home page and then to their list of databases. Here are the names of some fine databases: JSTOR, Academic Search Premier, MLA Bibliography, Humanities. Once you have obtained two articles THEY MUST BE APPROVED BY ME. Do not use the Internet. You may send me PDF files as links by GCU regular e-mail and I will approve your articles. Once you have your articles approved, you need to annotate each paragraph of each article by writing the main point or points of the paragraph in the margins of the articles. You are also required to find the thesis or argument of the articles and underline it and label it “thesis.” These annotated journal articles will be submitted with your research paper. This assignment is not only a writing assignment but also a reading assignment. You will be graded on how well you have annotated the article, so be very careful to annotate each paragraph, not just the paragraphs you use in your paper. You will have the remainder of the semester to work on your paper, which is due at the final exam date.

Here is the assignment handout:

Research Paper Assignment:

Your task is to read two peer-reviewed journal articles of 15 or more pages on the same topic. These journal articles must be approved by me before you begin reading them. Upon my approval, read the articles and in the margin of the articles you must write the main point of each paragraph. These annotations must be for every paragraph, not just the paragraphs that you use in your paper.

Once you have completed reading the two journal articles, write a 6 page paper, analyzing each article, arguing which journal article is better, giving specific reasons for your analysis and specific examples from the articles. Your argumentative thesis, then, must state which article is better and the reasons for your judgment in general terms and then, in the body of your paper, you must develop detailed analyses for your assertions.

You must submit the two journal articles with your typed paper.

Due Date: Date of Final Exam

Notice this research paper is different from the standard research paper in that I am requiring that you analyze your two sources. I don’t require 20 sources, only two sources. But the two sources must be read thoroughly from first page to last page and annotated with the main points in each paragraph. I am also requiring that you decide which article is better and for what reasons. You’ll have to decide what criteria or reasons for your judgment. Here are some reasons by which you can judge your sources:
