“Here some of the strategies to be employed include infection prevention and control, hospital triage as the responsibilities defined, wherein there should be adequate funding and resource allocation for this level of disaster planning. At the hospital level, there should be a qualified, dedicated healthcare team aware of emergency protocols for handling disaster and the effective use of the limited available resources to assist the majority. There should be established systems for promoting the mutual support and coordination between hospitals, local healthcare providers for the prevention and mitigation of hospital load, the police, EMS, CDC, and the relevant authorities (Greenacre & Fleshner, 2017). There needs to be established referral/counter-referral frameworks, patient follow-up at alternative care sites. The staff undergoes training and frequent drills to optimize their functioning roles in their contributions to the hospital’s surge capacity (Robertson, 2019). After the disaster patients are handed over to the healthcare team, the hospital plays a pivotal role in being the epicenter of medical care to the disaster victims.”
