Headings are used to divide a paper into sections and subsections. There are five levels of heading available, but for most of your assignments, two or three levels will be sufficient.
Level One Heading: Flush Left, Boldface, Upper and Lowercase Headings
Level two heading: Indented, boldface, lowercase paragraph heading with a full-stop. Level three heading: Indented, boldface, italicised, lowercase paragraph heading with a full-stop.
Level Five Heading: Centred, Boldface, Uppercase and Lowercase Headings
If your paper requires two levels of heading, use levels 1 and 3:
Give the location of the publisher first, followed by a colon. If the publisher is located in a major publishing city (the APA, 2001 lists these cities as Baltimore, Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, Philadelphia,
San Francisco, Amsterdam, Jerusalem, London, Milan, Moscow, Paris, Rome, Stockholm, Tokyo and Vienna) then do not include the publisher’s state or country in your reference.
If the publisher is located in a city in the USA, give the city and two-letter state abbreviation (e.g., CA for California, TX for Texas, ME for Maine etc.). If the publisher is located outside the USA, give the city and country (e.g., Sydney, Australia).
When providing the name of the publishers, superfluous terms such as “Publishing”, “Publishers”, “Co.”, or “Inc.” should be omitted, but retain the words “Books” and “Press”.
