Injury, Violence, and Safety
Public health emergencies can present a particularly complicated problem for fire and EMS responders to address. Whether discussing acute issues (such as motor vehicle safety) or more surreptitious problems (such as elder abuse), understanding the situation from the community level, the root causes and implications often requires a committee-based approach to fully appreciate and reduce the impact.
Choose one of the injury, violence, and safety topics from the CDC website and write a 2–3-page paper (excluding cover page) that focuses on the extent of the issue.
On the national level, how big is the problem? Who is most at risk? Are there already effective prevention methods identified?
How do these statistics compare to your community, your county, or your state? Be as specific as possible using the 5W’s + 1H questions.
Using both the Haddon Matrix and the 3Es model, how might the issue you have selected be measurably reduced?
Your paper should contain facts and figures from Chapter 2, the CDC, or other governmental or not-for-profit agencies that track these issues.

Directions
In addition to fulfilling the specifics of the Assignment, a successful paper must also meet the following criteria:
Include a cover page and references page in 10–12-point font (Arial, Courier, and Times New Roman are acceptable)
Viewpoint and purpose should be clearly established and sustained
Assignment should follow the conventions of Standard American English (correct grammar, punctuation, etc.)
Writing should be well ordered, logical, and unified, as well as original and insightful
Your work should display superior content, organization, style, and mechanics
Appropriate citation style should be followed
